This may seem like a larger array of trips but because it was another tour it was condensed all into the span of one long yet enjoyable day.
The day started much like Paris, minus the train, but on a coach bus. We left from Paddington station and traveled the short distance to Windsor Castle, where the Queen of England still likes to spend most of her time…and I can see why. Now most people may think to visit because of the castle however the town itself is sweet and charming with shops, cafes, and a variety of ways to spend an entire day, unfortunately we only had a few hours. Because of this, we made our way through the state rooms of the castle which resemble the ones at Edinburgh yet more lovely and obviously more often used. We had a few spare moments to explore the shops and grounds before boarding the coach once more.
From Winsor, we traveled to Stonehenge which I discovered is not on a Cliffside but rather in the middle of a series of fields and countryside…apparently, movies are very deceiving. Regardless we spent an hour looking at the standing stones and handing an audio guide which divulged facts about the stones, their purpose, and the grounds which surrounded them. Satisfied that there were no alien abductions while we were there we returned to the coach and traveled a short distance away to a local tavern. Here we had a wonderful “comfort food” meal which included Yorkshire Pudding…not actually pudding! After a lunch prone to sending us into a coma, we made the last trek to Bath.
Bath is of course known for the Roman Baths, but because of the time constraint we opted to explore the town instead. It was a cute town with architecture very different from other places in England and certainly than London. We took some lovely pictures and did some shopping and concluded the day with ice cream (flavors like Turkish delight and Elderberry!) before we loaded back onto the bus for the ride back to London.
All in all, a long but exciting day and a great way to see some of the countryside of England.
