Cardiff

Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is a quaint city in the United Kingdom which has a lot of culture packed into a little geography. With the school, I had the opportunity to city yet another country during my time abroad and explore a little of this city.

We took the train to the capital city and there we were released into the center of city for lunch. My friends and I found this underground restaurant called the Potted Pig where we enjoyed a leak and potato soup and a lamb burger with aioli. We left the restaurant feeling refreshed and made out way to the meeting spot at the Castle.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to explore the castle ourselves but we were able to walk around the surrounding grounds before our tour guide led us out into the city. We saw some of the lovely Victorian arcades that boast local shops and along the way he told us the history of Wales and its founding.

The city has a variety of churches, one of which we explored inside (and a few episodes of Dr. Who were shot there!). We saw the stadium where the local team plays rugby, and we ended at the museum which would have taken an entire day to explore.

Afterwards we met back up with the other group and took a boat through the river to a place called Tiger Bay. This is where the more commercial area lies, and it also houses the parliament and large performing arts center.

Though a quick day it was wonderful to be able to explore yet another country during my time in the United Kingdom.
